The perfect escape to your best self
A place that makes us feel fortunate to have met once in a lifetime, especially considering the COVID-19 pandemic. Although it impacts everyone on the planet, physically or psychologically. We still have to continue facing fast-paced changes, and we mostly ignore the voice from within that tells us how much we need to be restored.
The origins
We were lucky enough to have a chance to learn more about this place directly from the owner. Kamalaya’s origins can be traced back to 1982 in the remote Himalayan community where the founders, John and Karina Stewart met. John is dedicated to service and spiritual education in the Himalayan community. And Karina had 22 years of experience studying and practicing traditional Asian healing, both physically and spiritually, based on Chinese medicine.
During his visit to Koh Samui in 2000, John told us that he felt unique energy, especially in the cave (Tham Phra), which was originally a spot for monks to meditate. He knew right away that this was the ideal beginning point for Kamalaya.
The introduction
The name ‘Kamalaya,’ introduced in November 2005, was developed from Kamal, a lotus symbol of pleasure, and ‘Alaya,’ a sacred site in Sanskrit. The architectural design is simple but charming. It reflects the concept of health connected to nature as a critical element in sustaining the health and well-being of humankind.
The cave
or Tham Phra, the heart of the resort, is located on a hillside surrounded by beautiful green nature and ancient rocks along the peaceful coast of Laem Set Beach in the south of Koh Samui.
The resort has been open for 17 years, and it was only known to a small percentage of Thais before the Covid-19 outbreak. It has a huge number of returning foreign guests. The resort’s staff told us that since the COVID-19 pandemic, they’d seen an increase in the number of health-conscious Thai visitors.
before the arrival date
I’ve selected the Ideal weight program which I suppose the insomnia problem causes weight gain and edema caused by stress. Upon arrival, we have to complete the health information form, followed by a Body Composition Analysis to check out bone mass, muscle, fat, water levels and the body’s balance. To evaluate our nutritional status, particularly our belly fat, and detect general health conditions.
Following this procedure, a wellness consultant will give us a consultation to create a tailored wellness program for each guest, including daily treatments, workouts and meals.
Regarding my program, I met Khun Palm, a Naturopath who is also an expert on traditional Chinese acupuncture. She begins the session with a body composition analysis. As a result of everyday life, the real reason and how to cure. Finally, we found out not just about losing weight but also how to restore the balance of our natural health objectives for the long-term excellent health condition from the inside out.
my program includes;
- Chinese Acupuncture for balancing and relieving stress
- Lymphatic Drainage, a massage that stimulates the lymphatic system to detoxify, reduce acne and edema also adjust the immune system.
- Far Infrared Sauna is a sauna with heat from infrared light for 30 minutes that helps us burn energy equivalent to exercising for more than 4-5 hours.
- Chi Nei Tsang is an abdominal reflexology massage, a meridian point to relax tense muscles. It helps to maintain the balance of elements within the body. It stimulates the work of lymph nodes and the circulatory system. It allows the digestive system and the digestive system to work better.
- Personal Training
There are several healthful activities that you might attempt during the day. We recommend the Tea Ceremony in the Lobby, Yoga, Pilates, and Sea View Fitness for those who have traveled here. There is a not-to-be-missed sea view, an open-air hot bath, a steam room, a stand-up paddleboard, or simply sitting back and relaxing on the tranquil beach.
our accommodation
The accommodations are modest and spacious, with individual balconies with large semi-outdoor bathroom or hillside villas with private pools. Every day, seasonal fruits were served in the room. There was a mini-bar with various healthy snacks, Wi-Fi, and other facilities except for the TV, but we didn’t feel deprived.
meals
In terms of nutrition, we don’t have an issue eating healthy. Trying clean food at every meal boosts our digestion and sleep systems significantly.
There is little notice at every restaurant, wellness reception area, and other venues. Remind guests to refrain from using mobile phones or notebook computers in public places. To undertake a digital detox, take a break from exposure to the frequency of electronic devices in our everyday lives. This practice will help relieve anxiety and allow the body to rest in nature.
Starting with breakfast at Soma Restaurant, where fruit and vegetable extracts are served in four different shot glasses that we refill several times. The jam and bread provided here are made with all-natural ingredients high in vitamins, minerals, and fiber.
Amarita Cafe, a modest pavilion facing the beach, serves lunch. There is a large variety of fruit juices and smoothies to choose from. Detox menus are made with specially selected products and menus for those who still need time to catch up on healthy eating with different options every day.
in conclusion
It was wonderful to be here during such a challenging time. For us, this physical and emotional restoration is desperately needed. It was a moment in which we can listen to the sounds of our body and soul at the right pace. Emotional balancing has been achieved as a result of listening from within. It restores our sanity and strength so that we can go back and confront life’s challenges with a more powerful mind.
